Please carefully read our Terms & Conditions. By signing the declaration, you are accepting these terms and conditions of hire in full.

Who can drive the horsebox?

  • No one other than you and or any other driver named in the Hirers Questionnaire / Booking Form may drive the Horsebox.

  • No one may drive the Horsebox unless they are aged between 25 and 75 years of age inclusive during the Rental Term without a prior agreement. Every driver must hold a valid UK Driving Licence and have held it for at least two consecutive years, at the pickup date.

  • Every driver must complete the Hirers Questionnaire before driving the horsebox.

  • Every driver must send us a DVLA check code from: gov.uk/view-driving-licence

Our Horsebox can not be hired or driven by:

  • Persons that have been convicted of an offence in connection with the driving of a motor vehicle or motorcycle and/or have had their driving licence suspended or endorsed with more than 6 penalty points within 5 years of the date of them driving; unless agreed by us in advance in writing (Parking offences and "Spent" convictions, covered by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, may be disregarded).

  • Persons with a disability or medical condition that must be notified to the DVLA, unless the DVLA have been notified and a current driving licence valid for the vehicle being driven is held.

  • Persons that have had insurance declined and/or renewal refused and/or any other special terms imposed and/or have had an insurance policy cancelled by an insurer, unless agreed by us in advance in writing.

  • Persons who have been involved in more than one fault, or two non-fault motor accidents/thefts/claims in the last three years, unless agreed by us in advance.

  • Persons engaged in any of the following occupations or professions:

    • Professional entertainment or theatrics

    • Undergraduates or students age under 25 years

    • Foreign Services personnel born outside of the United Kingdom

Use of the horsebox, fuel, mileage and cleanliness:

You and any other driver of the horsebox must not:

  • Use the horsebox for hire or reward.

  • Use the horsebox for any illegal purpose.

  • Use the horsebox for teaching someone to drive.

  • Use the horsebox whilst under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.

  • Drive the horsebox outside England, Scotland and Wales, unless you have requested this in your booking request and this request has been approved.

  • You will receive our Horsebox completely clean and full of fuel. Before returning at the end of your hire time you must fill the fuel tank to maximum and clear out the horsebox completely, removing all horse muck, hay, bedding if used and possessions.

  • You must ensure that you use the correct fuel for the horsebox, which is pump diesel. NOT RED.

  • If you don’t return the horsebox with a full diesel tank we will charge you for filling the tank + 10% (a receipt will be provided.)

  • The horse area should be returned in the condition it was hired out to you. Failure to clear up may result in retention of the damage deposit or a cleaning charge of £50.

  • Please do not leave horses unattended when tied up to the horsebox.

  • Please do not let your horse eat grass when tied up.

  • You must not tie up haynets to the outside of the lorry.

  • You may travel with a well-behaved dog but please cover the seats. Any damage may result in your full damage deposit being retained.

  • There is a maximum mileage allowance of 150 miles for weekend usage and 100 miles for weekday usage Monday to Friday.

  • If you exceed this mileage there will be an additional charge of £30

Deposit & Fees

  • 50% of your hiring fee is needed as a non-refundable deposit to secure your booking​ date

  • Full payment is required ten days prior to your Pick Up Date

  • A damage waiver of £350 is required by bank transfer, or card payment before or at collection of the horsebox. This will be returned after the horsebox has been returned, inspected and no damage has occurred. A card payment machine is available at an additional cost of £5.00

  • Once Terms and Conditions are signed you give us permission to change the amount to the full insurance excess of £500, if the horsebox returns damaged.

  • Invoices for work or proof of the Insurance Excess will be provided.

  • If your horse causes damage to the inside or outside of the horsebox, you are liable and will be charged.

  • You are responsible for any loss or damage to the horsebox caused by negligence, misuse or otherwise, whether or not such loss or damage was caused by you. You will have to pay for costs of repair of any interior or exterior damage or loss to the horsebox or its equipment.

  • At pick up you must complete our Handover Survey of the Horsebox to identify the state of the horsebox, we will clearly point out any damage at pick up.

  • At return, you must complete our Handover Assessment to confirm the state of the horsebox, bring any issues to our attention and confirm you were happy with your hire.

  • No work must be completed on the Horsebox without express permission.

  • Any work that is completed on the lorry will be invoiced to the Hirer and must be paid within 14 days.

  • The following surcharges may be charged to you after returning the Horsebox and deducted from your deposit

  • Excessively dirty interior or exterior £50

  • Smoking in the vehicle £50

  • The Driver/Hirer of the vehicle will be responsible for any damage, speeding fines, parking fines, and overloading the horsebox.


Proof of Identity

  • Two items from the following list are required to confirm your booking:

    • Bank Statement Gas / Water / Electricity Bill

    • Credit Card Statement Council Tax Bill / Statement

    • Mortgage Statement

    • HMRC Tax Code Notice

    • Rent Book HMRC Self Assessment “Notice to Complete a Tax Return”

    • Employment Pay Slip

    • Mobile Phone Contract Statement

The items supplied must:

  • be current (i.e. no more than 90 days old)

  • show the hirer’s name

  • show the hirer’s address

Drivers License - front and back is required to confirm your booking:

If you hold a paper license pre-1988 then other photo ID e.g. your passport will be required.

Cancellations

  • If cancellations are made more than 10 days prior to the date of hire, you will only lose your deposit but the remaining half of your hire payment can be moved to another date, subject to availability and only moved once.

  • You will only be able to move your hire date once.

  • If you cancel less than 10 days prior to the date of hire you will not be refunded.

  • For special hiring deals, payment is expected in full on the date of booking. There are no refunds or moving dates for special deals.

  • You are not able to transfer hire dates to another person.

Security & Care

  • You must look after the horsebox and the keys to it.

  • You must always keep the horsebox locked securely at all times when unattended, ensuring that you use any and all security device(s) fitted to or supplied with the horsebox.

  • You must keep the keys about your person at all times.

  • You must protect the horsebox against any adverse weather conditions, eg excessively flooded showgrounds which may cause damage to the Horsebox.

  • You must not sell, rent or dispose of the Horsebox or any of its parts, fixtures, fittings or items added by Enfield Horse Box Hire.

  • You must not grant to anyone legal rights over the horsebox.

  • You must not let anyone work on the horsebox without the permission of Enfield Horsebox Hire.

  • You will only receive a refund if you have a valid VAT receipt for the work, and the works carried out have been authorised by Enfield Horsebox Hire.

  • You must let Enfield Horsebox Hire know as soon as you become aware of any fault or issue in or with the horsebox.

  • Before you return the Horsebox you must ensure you have not left any personal belongings in the horsebox.

Pick-up, Return, Vehicle Weight and Passports

  • The horsebox will be available for pick up from the pickup location on the pickup date from 7.00am (or the evening before by prior arrangement, subject to availability) and must be returned to the return point by appointment, on the return date no later than 7.00pm.

  • You will be given a collection time and you will be allowed 15 minutes after your specific time of collection. If you don’t arrive in time for your hire your hire will be cancelled.

  • Any delay in returning the horsebox will result in you being charged £25 per 30 minutes for every 30 minutes which you fail to return the horsebox to the return point.

  • Late return charges will be taken from your deposit. No refund is given for an early return of the horsebox.

  • Until the Horsebox is safely returned to Enfield Horse Box Hire you will remain responsible for the horsebox.

  • You acknowledge upon pick up, the rental of the Horsebox and the contents as free from any defect or damage, fit for purpose and complete other than as specified in the Handover Condition Report.

  • You are advised to check the Horsebox thoroughly before departure and we suggest you video the condition of the horsebox before departing.

  • Upon return of the horsebox, Enfield Horsebox Hire will check the horsebox for damage, cleanliness, fuel, and condition of the tyres, windscreen, bumpers, interior lights, mirrors, doors and internal habitation equipment.

  • If there is any damage or the Horsebox does not meet the criteria your £350 damage waiver will be retained.

  • It is the sole responsibility of the hirer to ensure that horses travel with a passport.

  • Enfield Horsebox Hire must inspect the horsebox before it is handed back to them so that they can ensure that they are satisfied with the condition in which it has been returned.

  • Enfield Horsebox Hire is under no obligation to return any such belongings left by you. The horsebox is not to be taken out of the U.K. without prior arrangement.

  • The horsebox is not designed to carry more than 3 people or more animals than recommended.

  • You must comply with the legal load and weight regulations as may apply, you can only be sure you are not overweight by using a weighbridge, Enfield Horsebox Hire is not responsible for any overloading.

  • Should the Horsebox be confiscated due to overloading, all fines, charges and lost revenue will be charged to the hirer.

Traffic Fines and Charges

  • You must pay any and all fines and costs (including court costs) incurred for parking, traffic, congestion charges (ULEZ) or other offences, (including any costs which arise if the horsebox is clamped).

  • You must pay to the appropriate authority any fines and costs if and when the authority demands this payment. If you do not, you will be responsible to pay any costs and reasonable administration charges incurred by Enfield Horsebox Hire in dealing with these matters.

  • Any fines incurred and not apparent until a later date will be forwarded to the hirer (such as speeding tickets) You are liable for any charges arising from HMRC or Immigration Authorities seizing the Horsebox, together with a loss of income charge for the full period during which the Owner cannot rent out the horsebox as a consequence.

  • Interest will be added every day to any amount you do not pay on time, at the rate of 4% a year above the base lending rate of Nationwide Building Society.

  • You must pay the Daily Rate for every day or part day for which you fail to return the horsebox to the return point

Availability

  • Every effort is made to ensure that the horsebox reserved is available. If, due to circumstances beyond Enfield Horsebox Hire’s control which could not reasonably have been foreseen or avoided at any point up until the Pick Up Date, the Rental Payment will be refunded.

  • Enfield Horsebox Hire reserves the right to refuse to hand over a Horsebox to any person who, in the reasonable opinion of Enfield Horsebox Hire is not suitable to take charge of the Horsebox.

  • In such cases of refusal, all payments made by the Hirer will be refunded in full, but Enfield Horsebox Hire will not have any further liability in relation to the aborted hire, nor to the person to whom hire was refused.

Accidents or Breakdown

  • In the event of a breakdown or accident you must contact Enfield Horsebox Hire as soon possible. It will also be necessary for you to prepare a motor accident report form and send a copy to Enfield Horsebox Hire.

  • Insurance excess is £500.

  • In the event of a breakdown or accident an emergency service is at your disposal.

  • Recovery in the event of a breakdown is not chargeable to hirers but will be chargeable in the event of an accident.

The breakdown service has the following main exclusions:

  • Excludes Human Error – e.g. incorrect fuelling, running out of fuel, being bogged or ditched, keys locked in vehicle, loss of keys etc.

  • Excludes Wilful Neglect – such as leaving radio or lights on

  • Excludes Assistance to vehicles with a prohibition notice

  • Excludes Assistance other than for Mechanical Breakdown – such as Road Traffic, Accidents, Fire, Theft, External Damage, Flood, Mud, Snow & Sand incidents

  • Excludes Breakdown outside of the UK, European Breakdown cover is NOT available

  • Excludes Replacement Keys and the cost of auto locksmith services

  • Excluding damage by horses where horses are recovered by transporters engaged by the service and any damage caused by the horse/s to such transporter’s vehicles is excluded.

  • Enfield Horsebox Hire cannot be held liable for delays, curtailment of journey or other incidental costs. You will bear all costs of breakdown or repair in circumstances where the incident is the result of negligence on your part, for example by running out of fuel, filling a tank with the wrong fuel, locking keys inside the Horsebox or losing keys.

  • In the event of breakdown or accident please contact Enfield Horsebox Hire and we will contact our Breakdown Service for you.

  • Horses will collected by alternative transport and dropped to one location only

  • The Horsebox will be collected and delivered to one location only

  • No responsibility is or can be accepted by Enfield Self Drive Horsebox Hire for any loss or damage or expense which occurs as a result of any accident or breakdown.

  • The hirer is responsible for any consequential losses that can not be claimed back from a third party, for example, in the event of an accident that is the hirer's fault or in the event of a hit and run.

  • If you have been involved in an accident you must not admit responsibility or apologise.

  • You should obtain the names and addresses of all involved, including witnesses. Take photographs or videos as evidence, where possible, including registration numbers, at least one photo of the damaged Horsebox, damaged other vehicles and location. You should also make the Horsebox secure, contact the police immediately if anyone is injured or if there is any disagreement regarding who is responsible.

  • The breakdown or malfunction of equipment after the Horsebox has been handed over by Enfield Horsebox Hire will not be accepted as reason to abort or cancel the Rental Contract; any such fault will be rectified as soon as possible.

If the fault cannot be rectified within twenty-four hours from the Pickup Date, Enfield Horsebox Hire will return the balance of the Rental Payment to the Hirer.

Disclosure Information

  • If you break the Hire Conditions, we can make available the information you have provided to us to credit reference agencies, the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), debt collectors and any other relevant organisations.

  • We are also entitled to pass this information on to the British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association (BVRLA), who in turn can pass it on to any of its members for any purpose stated in the Data Protection Act 1998.

  • Ending the Rental Contract Enfield Self Drive Horsebox Hire is entitled unilaterally to terminate immediately the Rental Contract by notice in writing to you if:

  • Any of these Terms are breached by you

  • You fail to remedy any breach having been requested to do so by Enfield Self Drive Horsebox Hire; III. You are made bankrupt.

  • Your forms will be kept on file securely for 12 months post-hire for insurance purposes.
